“Mama Said” – Articles from some seasoned women, Mama Tencie, Mama Beverly and Mama Dee, about lives lived and lessons learned.
Growing up on a farm offered some up close lessons about life and those lessons were live and in color. You can’t find that on a video game today! Several times I saw potential disaster for the baby chicks my mother was raising. There was always the threat of their enemies: snakes but especially hawks. As a child I remember seeing hawks circling the sky preparing to swoop down and lift an unsuspecting chick right off the ground. But the vigilant mother hen sent a signal for the chicks, spread her wings to full capacity, covered them and they all ran to safety. Then the hen turned and flew to attack the hawk! It reminded me of Luke 13:34 when Jesus is quoted as saying “O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the one who kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to her! How often I wanted to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her brood under her wings, but you were not willing!” That was a warning to the Jewish population and to us today to stay close to our Father God through studying His Word, prayer and fellowship. He is our instructor, our covering and our protection at all times - never stray away from him. – Mama Tencie
