Welcome to the Nehemiah ( the name means "comforted by YAHWEH" in Hebrew) Prayer: intercede, intervene, pray Project: Plan, Mission, Task, Assignment
What is that? I’m glad you asked the question. This project is named after someone who was able to produce unbelievably awesome results after:
- He heard from God
- He prayed to God
- He did what God instructed
According to the Book of Nehemiah in the Old Testament he was a leader of the Jews who was responsible for the rebuilding of wall and gates surrounding Jerusalem after the return from the Babylonian captivity.
Picture this: you and I praying for God to raise up a spiritual wall of protection, not against the co-worker you have problems with or your neighbor whose child picks your flowers, but our spiritual enemy - satan.
The Book of Nehemiah is a picture of the world today: the broken physical walls and gates would allow an outside enemy to come in and without a struggle, set up camp and take over, confiscate anything of value and if possible enslave everyone they could. We see that today with legalized drugs, divorces, diverse life styles, fears and hopelessness just to name a few situations.
This prayer project is 15 minutes on Monday morning, wherever you live and whatever time zone you are in. Why that day and time? Though our calendar shows Sunday as the beginning, that first day at work usually feels like the beginning of the week and 9 AM, starting time for that day. You can pray while you drive, pour that cup of coffee or sit down to your desk. For those who must kneel, I suggest you move to a secluded place on your 15 minute break time(smile).
As you pray, separate people from their actions, that’s what God does. He sees and loves us and the possibilities and potentials He gave us but not the sins, not our abominations (there are many types listed 74 times in the NKJV) or every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ.
This prayer time is on your own, you don’t have to call someone to be with you, don’t have to hold hands with anyone, and no one will do a follow-up call to make sure you prayed 15 minutes. There are so many things to pray about: Children in shelters and foster care because their families can’t keep them, persons with mental conditions or suicidal thoughts, people who are not born-again and don’t know Our Father God in the pardon of their sins.
Building up the spiritual broken walls through prayer can only be accomplished by a substance you can’t see with the natural eye: charity (love), compassion and concern – the same thing God gave us.
I hope you will join in and do something awesome for God during this time of prayer.
